Serving the Community for 60 years!

In time for Canada’s 150th, Browns Cleaners is celebrating 60 years in the Ottawa valley. Browns opened in 1957 and immediately became a hub for all new African and Caribbean immigrants looking for community in a new land. Herbert Browns— known as Pops— always made sure to welcome anyone looking for a family. He acted as a stand-in father for at least seven weddings, while his wife Estelle made their wedding dresses.

After 20 years, the Browns family sold the business to the MacGregors. They kept the name to honour what had been built, and continued the legacy of helping those in what ways they could. They’re still a family business, and understand the importance of going that extra mile to care for those who need it.

That’s why Browns partners with the Fairy Godmother of Ottawa, the Snowsuit Fund, and other charities in the Ottawa-Gatineau region. Continuing the hospitable legacy Pops began, serving the community.

The MacGregor’s have built the Browns Cleaners business to over 40 locations (under Browns Cleaners and The Drycleaner brands) and city-wide Pick-up and Delivery for free at-home service. Family values, community involvement and hard work have proven successful for Browns. They appreciate the loyalty of their customers over the past many decades, and look forward to another 60 years!
