04 May Fire at Browns Cleaners Main Plant on Saturday
You probably heard in the news, over the weekend we had a fire in the steam tunnel at our main plant. Things were very active at 270 City Centre Drive Saturday morning! Luckily, all staff are safe and so is the main part of the plant. The steam tunnel is on our roof and is not connected to the rest of the equipment in the plant. A mechanical system brings items up, through the tunnel and down again automatically (it’s like a really boring roller coaster for clothes!).
As the largest cleaner in the region, we have many thousands of items of clothing through our plant every day. Fortunately, it looks like all clothing on-site will be fine. There is a smoke smell throughout, but Browns Cleaners is a major restoration cleaner and we are experts at dealing with textiles subjected to smoke and water. We’ve already started using air scrubbers and ozone treatment to totally remove any odour.
We also started immediately with any required clean-up; and we are already fully operational again. There will be a slight delay in the service for clothing currently in the plant.
Service at all of our locations and free pick-up & delivery routes will be the same.
We’d like to thank the outpouring of concern from friends and customers. Like you, we are relieved that no-one is hurt, business will continue as normal and the clothing on-site is fine.
We’d also like to thank the firefighters and emergency first responders who responded so quickly and ensured that the fire did not spread to the main production areas of the plant.
